When in New Orleans, beignets are a must. After all, they are the official state doughnut of Louisiana – no joke. But just because you aren’t in New Orleans doesn’t mean that you can’t enjoy this classic New Orleans style dessert. After all, it has come a long way to make it to New Orleans, so Harry’s Seafood Bar & Grille is bringing it to Florida, too.
Like most things we love and appreciate from New Orleans, there is a story behind beignets. Europeans have been eating friend dough as far back as ancient Rome, but we can attribute this classic dessert to the French, who developed choux pastries, which were made with dough that rises with its own steam developing a fluffy and moist end result. Beignets are a type of choux pastry, and like many other culinary and cultural qualities, the French settlers who migrated to an area of Canada called Acadia, brought them along. As the result of a forced migration, many Acadians settled in Louisiana and soon became known as Cajuns.
Beignets have remained popular, despite the years passed and distances travelled, and are now a classic New Orleans dessert. That’s why, in the spirit of New Orleans, as always, Harry’s Seafood Bar & Grille features Oreo Beignets on the menu at all five locations.
Harry’s Oreo beignets come with six pieces, lined up on a plate drizzled with milk chocolate and topped with a white chocolate bourbon sauce. They’re perfect for sharing and offer just the right amount of sweetness that you need after a savory meal.
